Christ has promised us that if we are righteous, pray faithfully, and believe in Him as our Savior, we will receive whatever we ask for in prayer. Please continue to pray faithfully for the people affected by Hurricane Katrina.

The following is a prayer list for First Presbyterian Church of Gulfport, Mississippi. This list was provided by the Gulfport Relief Project Coordinator, Gorton Marsden.

  • Endurance of home owners--some homes will not be ready for months.  Continue their faith and worship.
  • Many businesses were destroyed.  Pray for jobs for those displaced from work.
  • Wisdom for church leadership in setting priorities and working with home owners and volunteer leadership.
  • Availability and willingness of experienced leadership to volunteer for 2-4 weeks at a time.
  • Availability of building materials.  Drywall is on allocation nationally.  Spot shortages of other materials.
  • More trailers for the Base Camp called Camp Hope--either use of trailer long term or donation.
  • More donations to fund $500M+ of building materials, particularly from churches who have not yet forwarded funds to Gulfport.
  • A cooperative spirit by all volunteers adjusting to Camp Hope limitations (only 3 showers), food, material limitations, humid climate, cold nights, lack of expertise, unfamiliar coworkers, etc.
  • Cooperation of home owners--replacing cabinets and appliances with "low cost" vs. "top-of-the-line"
  • Buying & delivery resources for building materials.
  • Continued cooperation of MNA, MTW, and Heritage Presbytery leadership scheduling use of Camp Hope and determining work focus for each group.
  • Workers can avoid injury and illness.
  • A mix of skilled and unskilled workers that can do a quality job for the home owners.
  • Solutions for home owners with totally destroyed homes--a $2+ million demand.
  • How to extend help to the community.
